Former Indian school in Phoenix finds new use as farm project

The old Phoenix Indian School in Arizona is finding a new use as a farm for refugee families.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs gave up the boarding school in a land swap during the George H. W. Bush administration. Part of the site was converted into the Steele Indian School Park while 15 acres remained in the hands of Barron Collier Companies, a developer.

The land, however, wasn't being developed so Barron Collie allowed the city to turn it into a farm for refugee families from Iraq, the Democratic Republic of Congo and other countries. Other parts of the property are also being put to other uses.
