Former head of Alaska Native whaling commission sentenced

Maggie Ahmaogak, the former executive director of the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission, was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison on theft and other charges.

Ahmaogak, 62, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and misapplication of funds from an organization receiving federal money and one charge of money laundering. Authorities said she stole more than $420,000 from the commission.

Ahmaogak was ordered to pay $393,193.90 in restitution.
