Navajo students stress importance of keeping culture alive

Students at Navajo Preparatory School said they want to preserve their culture, language and traditions for future generations.

Jasmine Jishie, Jefferson Joe Jr., Shane Benally and Delta Higdon are getting ready to graduate from the school. They shared their future plans, including college, and their desire to return to the Navajo Nation to help the reservation.

"Coming here to Navajo Prep and learning about my culture has offered me clarity," Joe, who plans to become an attorney, said at a panel discussion, The Farmington Daily Times reported. "I finally know what I want to do. I want to stop our culture from fading away, and I want to protect my people any way I can."

Benally wants to be an athletic trainer and coach on the reservation.
