Rapid City – There are many Native American business owners out there who have the drive, determination, and capital to make their businesses grow however, this is not always a guarantee of success. What these business owners lack is the know-how that Painted Skye Consulting of Rapid City, can provide them.

“Customer service is extremely important for non-profit and for-profit organizations and is something Native communities need to invest in,” said the founder of Painted Skye Consulting Kimberly Tilsen-Brave Heart. “It is really important in how we make that paradigm shift so we can start seeing the change in how we interact with one another across Indian Country,” she added.

Painted Skye Consulting is a 100% Native Women owned consulting firm that operates on the belief that their customers’ needs come first. The company which is owned and operated Kimberly Tilsen-Brave Heart an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, was founded in March of 2010 and has continued to expand their services. Painted Skye Consulting provides a number of highly sought after services to clients, including but not limited to customer service training, marketing, cultural diversity and sensitivity training, executive management training and most recently strategic planning.

“What I really do for most tribes is strategic planning. My trainings are not the average consulting. My trainings are very fun, dynamic, value based and connected to culture. That is how I am most effective,” she said.

Ms. Tilsen Brave Heart gives her clients the opportunity to take advantage of the plethora of experience that she has gained working in Indian Country for the last several years. Kim was a cofounder of the South Dakota Indian Business Alliance as well as a participant in the Bush Foundation’s Native Nation Rebuilders Fellowship Program.

During the last 7 years she has focused on establishing methodologies and strategies that she hopes will contribute to the development of sustainable economic development in Native American communities across the country.

“I am not one of those people who write a plan just to write a plan. I am very action oriented,” she said. “My consulting is based on finding the necessary steps that will make a business or a tribe more profitable. That is what Painted Skye is focused on doing,” she added.

In addition working with small businesses the company also specializes in helping artisans, entrepreneurs better develop and implement strategies that will lead to these small businesses having better customer service and a higher likelihood of sustainability in both rural and urban communities.

“My passion is entrepreneurship and that will always be what is important to me,” said Tilsen-Brave Heart. “However we are now expanding to do more work with tribes to find ways of making them profitable,” she said.
