Energy company suspends operation within Blackfeet Nation

The Anschutz Exploration Corporation has suspended exploratory drilling activities on the Blackfeet Nation in Montana.

The company recently drilled 14 exploratory oil and gas wells near Glacier National Park. But the work will cease due to a lack of viability.

"We appreciate the commitment that everyone has made to work for success on this large project; however, there are other projects in our company that require our attention," Christopher Hunt, Anschutz’s Chairman and Chief Executive, said in a press release.

Anschutz will continue to operate a few producing wells at other locations while it starts reclamation efforts at the exploratory sites. The company has held leases to a total of 600,000 acres of the reservation.
