Chippewa Cree Tribe removes leader after he refuses hearing

The Chippewa Cree Tribe of Montana removed Chairman Ken Blatt St. Marks from office on Monday.

The council held a hearing to consider charges against St. Marks but he refused to attend. “I’m still the chairman,” the told The Havre Daily News, disputing the legality of the proceedings.

St. Marks was accused of employee harassment, sexual harassment, financial misconduct, unauthorized expenditures and illegal employment practices. He contends he was targeted because he has encouraged federal agencies to investigate corruption on the reservation.
