A judge in Florida fined two prominent lawyers $50,000 for their handling of a wrongful death case involving two members of the
Miccosukee Tribe.
Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Ronald Dresnick originally sanctioned Guy Lewis and
Michael Tein of
Lewis Tein $3,500.
But after learning that they charged Jimmie Bert and daughter, Tammy Gwen Billie, $3.1 million for legal services, he raised the fine to $50,000.
“I’m just shocked by the amount of these fees,” Dresnick said yesterday, The Miami Herald reported. “I’m just flabbergasted.”
Despite the harsh words, Dresnick determined that Lewis and Tein did not commit perjury and did not mislead him about their handling of the civil wrongful death case.
