TV show based on Sheriff Walt Longmire book series returns

Longmire, the television show on the based on the Sheriff Walt Longmire book series, returns for a second season on Monday.

The show is set in Wyoming on and near a fictional reservation. Episodes in the first season tackled disenrollment, Indian child welfare, race and other issues.

Lou Diamond Phillips, who has claimed Cherokee ancestry, plays the role of Henry Standing Bear, the best friend of Sheriff Longmire. Author Craig Johnson has said the character is based on Marcus Red Thunder, a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe.

The show is filmed in New Mexico.
