Navajo Nation looking to resolve case over 'Navajo' products

The Navajo Nation is in talks to settle a lawsuit over the unauthorized sale of "Navajo" products.

The tribe sued the company for a line or products that were labeled "Navajo" or "Navaho." The tribe is alleging violations of trademark law and of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act.

The two parties have since agreed to enter mediation. Talks could wrap up in late summer.

"I hope this sets a big precedent. I hope it sends the message to other clothing retailers so they don't go near this,"Richard Stim, an attorney who is not involved in the case but is watching it, told The Navajo Times.
