Nottawaseppi Huron Band's highest court hears election case

The highest court of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Indians heard an election dispute on Wednesday.

The tribe barred four candidates from running for office after they allegedly held their own primary and distributed campaign materials without prior approval from the election board. The candidates, however, contend they were merely holding their own discussions and engaging others in tribal politics.

After the four candidates were removed from the ballot, the tribe held an election in April. The candidates want the results overturned.
