South Dakota State University approves Indian studies major

South Dakota State University will now offer a bachelor's degree program in Indian studies.

Up to 30 students are expected to enroll this fall, Richie Meyers, SDSU’s American Indian studies program coordinator, told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. The school has a minor in Indian studies, so there is already interest on campus.

“This program has the potential, I believe, to really make a mark that is meaningful and sustainable as well,” Meyers told the paper.

Three other universities in the state offer a major in Indian studies.
