Trial postponed for Spirit Lake Nation social services director

A trial has been delayed for Mark Little Owl, who was hired by the Spirit Lake Nation of North Dakota to serve as the tribe's director of social services.

Little Owl is facing misdemeanor charges of assault, theft and contributing to the deprivation of a minor. Authorities say he was involved in a domestic incident with his former wife while their two children were in the home.

The incident occurred August 1, 2012, shortly after the tribe hired Little Owl, who is a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation. The tribe later agreed to hand control of its social services program to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

It's not clear if Little Owl is still employed by the tribe. News reports said he had been suspended in February but the tribe hasn't confirmed his status, The Grand Forks Herald reported.
