Amah Mutsun Tribe moves up in BIA's federal recognition list

The Amah Mutsun Tribe of California has moved up one slot in the Bureau of Indian Affairs federal recognition waiting list.

The tribe started the process in 1990. Its petition was completed in 2003 but the BIA has yet to make a decision.

That will be changing soon now that the tribe is nearing the top of the queue. A May 31 letter from the BIA announced the development, The San Benito County Today reported.
