Comanche Nation preserves language for future generations

Through the efforts of its tribal college, the Comanche Nation of Oklahoma is preserving its language for future generations.

Fewer than 25 people speak Comanche fluently. The Comanche Nation College is changing that by offering language courses and by developing a digital archive of the language.

A $198,000 grant from the Administration for Native Americans paid for the project. The college worked with the Texas Tech University to record words and sentences spoken by tribal elders.
