Heavy rains have forced the closure of a highway that runs through the New Mexico portion of the Navajo Nation.

The six-mile stretch of U.S. Route 491 between Naschitti and Sheep Springs collapsed. It will be closed for two weeks for repairs.

Drivers are advised to take alternate routes for travel in northwestern New Mexico.
