Cherokee Nation reaches compact for expanded car tag sales

The Cherokee Nation will be expanding car tag sales throughout all of Oklahoma.

The tribe currently sells car tags to members in a 14-county jurisdictional area. A new compact -- to be signed on Friday -- will authorize all Cherokee citizens in the state to carry tribal tags.

“These compacts reflect a dramatic expansion in Cherokee car tag sales,” Cherokee Nation Council Deputy Speaker Chuck Hoskin Jr. said in a press release. “For the first time, Cherokees across the state will be able to have a Cherokee tag.

The tribe sets aside a portion of the revenues for public schools in the 14-county area.
