Colville Tribes still facing pressure to share trust settlement

Some members of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington are still pushing for a larger per capita payment from a $193 million trust fund settlement.

The tribe distributed 50 percent of the settlement on a per capita basis. About $10,000 went to every member last year.

The tribal council plans to invest the rest in programs and services. But a group called Colville Members for Justice wants to put a halt to any spending in order to consider a petition that calls for the remainder to be distributed in another per cap payment.

The issue will be heard in tribal court today.
