Coeur d'Alene Tribe battles disposal of waste on reservation

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho is battling two non-Indian entities over the disposal of sewage on the reservation.

The tribe claims the use of the waste poses a health and environmental risk. But the two companies say the tribe lacks jurisdiction because the activity occurs on non-Indian land.

A federal judge, for now, has ordered Gobers Pumping and Repair, which transports the waste, and St. Isidore Farms, a business on the reservation, to exhaust their tribal remedies. The dispute will return to tribal court.

Turtle Talk has posted documents from the case, St. Isidore Farm v. Coeur d'Alene Tribe.
