City in Montana plans to use Salish language on certain signs

The city council in Missoula, Montana, is asking the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes for guidance on the Salish language.

The city plans to use Salish on "wayfinding" signs to direct people to certain locations. Tribal elders are being asked about places of cultural significance.

“We appreciate that,” said Tony Incashola, the director of the Salish-Pend d’Oreille Culture Committee, The Missoulian reported. “It’s been a long time coming, but as they say, the best place to start is now.”
