Coeur d'Alene Tribe hosts youth at annual water potato harvest

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho hosted about 120 children for its annual Water Potato Celebration.

The children learned about the importance of the water potato, or sqigwts, to the tribe. The tubers are harvested along rivers and waterways.

“It’s a beautiful root and it truly defines the Coeur d’Alene people,” Paulette Jordan, the tribe’s enrollment director, told The Spokesman Review.

The celebration continues through Thursday.
