IRS requests contempt order for chairman of Miccosukee Tribe
Posted: Thursday, October 31, 2013
The Internal Revenue Service
is asking a federal judge to hold the leader of the Miccosukee Tribe
of Florida in contempt.
The IRS claims Chairman Colley Billie has failed to turn over documents and answer questions as required by a court order. The documents are related to the actions of his predecessor, Billy Cypress.
The tribe sued Cypress, claiming he bilked the tribe out of $26 million in connection with a taxation dispute and other legal issues. The case was dismissed and now he's running against Billie in an election next week.
