Muckleshoot Tribe acquires 96K acres of forestland for $312.8M

The Muckleshoot Tribe of Washington acquired 96,307 acres of forestland for a total of $312.8 million.

Most of the land is located near Mount Rainier National Park. The tribe plans to create a sustainable timber harvest.

“This acquisition is another important step toward the tribe’s goals of increasing our land base, reacquiring portions of our homeland and diversifying our economy,” Chairwoman Virginia Cross in a statement, according to news reports.

The purchase is the biggest in the tribe's history.
