Pamunkey Tribe told to wait longer for decision on recognition

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has again delayed a decision on federal recognition for the Pamunkey Tribe of Virginia.

The tribe expected a decision on August 20 but the BIA requested a 90-day extension at tat time. Now the agency is telling the tribe to wait until December 20.

The tribe filed its letter of intent in June 2009, according to the BIA's Office of Federal Acknowledgment. The petition was placed on the "ready" list in July 2012.
