Chairman of Lumbee Tribe accused of assault by council official

Paul Brooks, the chairman of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, is facing an assault charge.

Louise Mitchell, the secretary of the tribal council, said she was trying to post official notices when she was confronted by Brooks at tribal headquarters. She said he forcefully tried to remove her from the premises.

Brooke did not deny clashing with Mitchell. But he says he did not assault her.

The case will be heard on Monday, The Fayetteville Observer reported.
