Liard First Nation lays off most of staff following election

The Liard First Nation in the Yukon territory has laid off nearly its entire staff and says it doesn't have any money to pay its bills.

The move came after the band elected a new slate of leaders. Chief Daniel Morris blames the prior administration for the crisis.

But the prior chief said the band should have had enough in its reserves to keep going. Liard McMillan, who served for 10 years, said an audit was almost complete.

The Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development plans to audit the band in response to the concerns.
