The National Congress of American Indians released a new ad in support of the Change the Mascot campaign. The video features images and footage of modern-day and historical Native people. The narrator speaks the names of tribal communities and states there is one word that Native people do not use in reference to themselves. The ad won praise from Marion Barry, a former Washington, D.C., mayor and current city council member. In a series of posts on Twitter, he called on the team to drop its racist name.
