The RCMP has opened a criminal investigation into the death of a Native man at a work site in British Columbia.

Jeff Caron, 28, died on October 11, 2012. He was working on a construction project for the city of Burnaby when a concrete wall collapsed on him.

The British Columbia Workers' Compensation Board conducted a review and found fault with the city and three construction and engineering firms. Now it's up to the RCMP to determine if criminal charges are warranted.

"Hallelujah. Thank you. There's somebody that's listening" Cindy Kahm, Jeff's mother, told CBC News. Kahm lives on the Little Pine First Nation.
