The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York has fired its police chief after an internal audit uncovered financial management issues.
Andrew Thomas had been placed on leave earlier this month for unspecified reasons. A press release discloses that he was fired for failing to manage towing and storage fees for vehicles that have been impounded by tribal police.
The supervising officer and a civilian employee of the police department also were suspended but the press release didn't disclose their employment status.
