Darlene Miller announced her candidacy for president of the Seneca Nation of New York on Monday.

Miller is a tribal council member and is former CEO and controller of the Seneca Nation Health Systems. She hopes to become the first woman to lead the tribe.

“We seek a united people, a nation combined, not divided along partisan political lines,” Miller said yesterday. “Our goals are health, education and growth for all.”

Miller is the first person to declare her candidacy. The president serves a two-year term.
