EAGLE BUTTE – Grand Marshals Casimir LeBeau, 97, and Dave Bald Eagle, 95, (pictured) led the 58th Annual Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Fair, Rodeo & Pow wow on Sept. 1.

Steven Payne, president of State Bank of Eagle Butte, supplied a 2014 Corvette Stingray for Chief Bald Eagle and a 2005 Chevy HHR for LeBeau, believed to be the eldest man on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation in central South Dakota.

Bald Eagle’s wife Josee beaded his buckskin outfit to represent his vision of red lightening against a blue sky with yellow and white trim. A veteran of wars dating back to the days of the U.S. Cavalry, Dave has raised 25 children with Josie.

Thirteen of them have followed him into military careers. Among those who walked in the parade with the marshals were U.S. Army Col. Ines White, Army SSG Remi Bald Eagle, and Sandra Flying Horse, wife of Ret. Marine Sgt. John Luke Flying Horse, as well as their son Zeus.

For parade watchers, participants in the fair’s pow wow provided lively floats and local businesses threw out plenty of candy.
