Roger Dana Barnett, the second chief of the Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma, will not go going to trial next week as anticipated. In fact, The Native American Times reports that Barnett might be in plea negotiations. A hearing is scheduled for October 9, the paper said. The U.S. Attorney's Office says Barnett stole about $150,000 from the tribe. The theft occurred from April 2013 through April 2014, according to a grand jury charge. Details, however, are scarce. Most of the documents in the federal court system do not give further information about the nature of the alleged crime although it reportedly involves a tribal credit card. Barnett pleaded guilty and was due to go to trial on September 22. Barring a plea deal, he will now face the jury on October 20, the Times reported. Get the Story:
