The Center for Native American Youth is hosting actor Chaske Spencer in Washington, D.C., today as part of a discussion on issues facing Native youth.

Spencer, a member of the Fort Peck Tribes, will provide the keynote. The actor is known for his role in the popular Twilight film series and he recently starred in Winter in the Blood.

"Too often the stories of Native Americans in the national media are negative and based on misperceptions," Spencer said in a press release. "I look forward to sharing my story and authentic, inspiring perspectives from Native peoples at this event, and with CNAY in the future."

The event starts at 12pm Eastern time and features a panel discussion that includes Jodi Gillette, a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe who serves as Senior Policy Advisor for Native American Affairs at the White House.

A webcast will be available at www.aspeninstitute.org/events/live.
