South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley released the results of an investigation into the deaths of four people on the reservation of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate.

Jackley said domestic violence was the driving force being the deaths of Vernon Renville Jr., Angela Adams, Candice Labelle at a home on the reservation on November 22. He said all evidence pointed to Colter Arbach, 22, as the shooter.

Arbach turned the gun on himself after shooting Renville, Adams and Labelle. He also shot Karissa Dog Eagle, who remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

"It has been determined that domestic violence was the major contributing factor in the shooting. All five families involved, the community of Sisseton and South Dakota have suffered a tremendous loss," Jackley said in a press release.

Prior to the shootings, Arbach punched Dog Eagle after she tried to end their relationship, according to the investigation. He went for a gun after she indicated that she, or someone else in the home, might contact police.

According to a GoFundMe page, the shooting left 11 children orphaned. Sierra Smiley Wolcott and other tribal members are collecting donations and raising money for the children and Dogeagle.
