The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma finally reclaimed $6.5 million of its funds that had been frozen amid a leadership dispute.

The tribe resolved the dispute more than a year ago. But the First Bank and Trust of Clinton, which initially tried to close the tribe's accounts, was holding on to the money.

The bank eventually agreed to return the funds and a hearing was scheduled in state court to dismiss a pending lawsuit. In the interim, the Court of Civil Appeals issued a ruling that said the case should have never been in the state court system in the first place.

“I appreciate those involved in securing the release of the funding and for the bank's cooperation,” Gov. Eddie Hamilton said in a press release. “We are eager to see the funds put to the use they were originally intended – funding services to tribal members.”
