A member of the Tulalip Tribes of Washington is accused of clubbing two bald eagles to death.

According to the indictment, Shane Moses came upon two adult female bald eagles at Tulalip Bay in December 2013. He hit both in the head with a club and transported them elsewhere with the intention of selling the birds, the grand jury said in the indictment.

It's not clear why the case took so long to prosecute and the court record is scant. KOMO-TV doesn't have many more details but shared the reaction from a relative of the defendant.

"It's really sacred, it's one of our most sacred," aunt April Moses said of the eagle. "I'm really shocked."
