Police offers for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in South Dakota have started using body cameras, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports.

The tribal police department secured a grant for the equipment last summer and purchased the cameras last fall, the paper said. Officers have been wearing them for about a month.

"After Ferguson happened, we pushed to try and get ahead of it. We knew there would be a demand, and there was," Police Chief Chuck LeCompte told the paper, referring to the officer-involved shooting of Michael Brown in Missouri.

LeCompte said the use of the cameras has helped address complaints against the police department.
