Marathon on Navajo Nation draws large number of participants

Over 2,000 runners registered for the 32nd annual Shiprock Marathon.

The course runs through the Arizona and New Mexico portions of the Navajo Nation. It includes a marathon, a half-marathon, a 10K and a marathon relay for teams.

Harold Bennally, a member of the Navajo Nation, won the men's division. He beat the second person by about a minute, according to the results.

Caroline Sekaquaptewa, a member of the Hopi Tribe, won the women's division. She finished more than seven minutes ahead of the next runner.

The half-marathon featured a fierce competition between two members of the Navajo Nation. Alvin Begay finished ahead of Gavin Sosa by just 17 seconds, according to the results.
