The Klamath Tribes of Oregon have a new chief judge.

Jeremy Brave-Heart, an attorney and member of the Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, was sworn into office on Monday. He plans to expand the tribe's juvenile program to help keep youth out of trouble.

“I had a very hard life I had to overcome to get where I am today,” Brave-Heart said at the ceremony, The Klamath Falls Herald and News reported. “I have a very special place in my heart for the juvenile program.”

The chief judge's seat is normally filled by election, the paper reported. Brave-Heart will work under contract for now but will run in 2016, the paper said.
