The Senate Indian Affairs Committee has scheduled a business meeting and oversight hearing on June 10. Only one item is on the agenda for the meeting -- S.248, the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act. The bill treats and their enterprises in the same manner as federal, state and local governments under the National Labor Relations Act.

The committee held a hearing on the bill on April 29. The National Labor Relations Board did not take a position, as is common in matters involving pending legislation. The hearing will focus on victim services in Indian Country. American Indians and Alaska Natives are more likely to be victimized than any other racial or ethnic group, according to federal studies. The business meeting and hearing will take place in Room 628 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Committee Notices:
