Eastern Shawnee Tribe recognized for 'clean' efforts in Oklahoma

The Eastern Shawnee Tribe is once again being recognized by the state of Oklahoma for its environmental and recycling programs.

The tribe has been named an Oklahoma Clean Community for two years in a row. The award highlighted efforts to protect the environment and recycle tires.

The tribe's annual tire recycling events collect an average of 1,235 tires, the Department of Environmental Quality said in a press release. The tribe also works with schools to recycle their waste, according to Keep Oklahoma Beautiful.
