First Native woman Ashley Callingbull wins Mrs. Universe title

Ashley Callingbull made history on Saturday by becoming the first Native woman to win the title of Mrs. Universe.

Callingbull, 25, competed against other married women at the international contest in Belarus. She was proud to showcase her Native culture as a member of the Enoch Cree Nation n Alberta.

"I want to represent our culture properly, in the right way," Callingbull told CBC Radio. "It made me genuine and unique from the other contestants."

Callingbull will use her title to address stereotypes and other Native issues.
