Native Sun News This is a topic Native Sun News has touched upon several times in the past. What do Indians call themselves and what name does White America choose for us? A few years ago the local daily newspaper, Rapid City Journal’s, editorial board decided that Indians should be called “Natives” in their newspaper from now on and it has remained true to the name they chose for us all of these years. However, when it writes a headline that reads “Native Rapid City man receives honor” does that mean that man was a Native American?
