Alaska Native village reels from string of suicides among youth

Four young people have taken their lives in Hooper Bay, a Yup’ik community in Alaska.

According to news reports, the first suicide occurred on September 24, when Noel Tall, 26, took his life. Less than a week later, 24-year-old Eric Tomaganuk committed suicide on October 2.

On October 4, 20-year-old Miranda Seton took her life. On Sunday, Carl Dominic Robert Joe, 20, committed suicide.

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation has sent a crisis team to the village to respond to the situation. About 1,000 people live in Hooper Bay.
