The American Indian and Indigenous Film Festival takes place this week in California.

The California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center at California State University San Marcos will host screenings of films like A Thousand Roads and Chasing the Light on Thursday and Friday. Noted filmmaker Chris Eyre and the 1491s performance troupe are slated to appear.

The event moves to the Pechanga Resort and Casino on Saturday. In addition to screenings of films like Songs My Brother Taught Me, youth can participate in a free program with filmmaker Steven Paul Judd.

Professor Joely Proudfit serves executive director of the festival. She is a descendant of the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians.
