The leader of Parguay's Indian affairs agency was fired after he was seen on a video kicking an Indian woman in the stomach.

Jorge Servin kicked Jorgelina Portillo as she was taking part in a protest outside the office of the Instituto Paraguayo Del Indigena in Asuncion, the nation's capital. The incident took place on Thursday, November 26.

"Someone who represents the Indians but doesn't mind kicking them, I don't want to discuss it, he has to go," President Horacio Cartes told reporters on Friday, according to the EFE news agency.

Servin denied striking Portillo and claimed he only lifted his knee in self-defense, the Associated Press reported. He also issued a press release in which he appeared to defend his actions.

Portillo is from the Ava Guarani community, the AP reported.
