Rocky Jim, Jr., a member of the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida, retired from alligator wrestling after 31 years in the business.

Jim's last show at the Miccosukee Indian Village was on December 27, 2015, AFP reported. The 44-year-old decided it was time to step down after spending most of his life next to the large and potentially dangerous reptiles.

"We just respect them," Jim, who learned how to handle the animals from his father, told AFP.

Alligator wrestling will continue at the village, just not with any Miccosukees in the ring. Members of the larger Seminole Tribe still carry on the tradition, which is a popular tourist draw.
