Employees of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians in Oregon are getting a pay raise.

The tribal council voted to raise the minimum wage on the reservation from $9.25 an hour to $11 an hour. The increase applies to all tribal government employees, along with those at the Chinook Winds Casino Resort and other tribal entities.

"The Tribal Council sees the new tribal minimum wage as one way to help employees and their families to make ends meet," Chairwoman Delores Pigsley said in a press release.

The wage increase was made retroactive to January 1. So those employees who were at the old level will see an extra boost in their paycheck.

The state's minimum wage of $9.25 an hour would be raised over the next few years under a bill being considered in the Oregon Legislature. The bill passed a House committee on Monday, The Oregonian reported.

The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour.
