Former finance director for Pit River Tribe indicted in federal court


Kenley Black, the former finance director for the Pit River Tribe, was indicted in federal court on tax evasion and theft charges.

Kenley Black, the former finance director for the Pit River Tribe in California, has been indicted on tax evasion and embezzlement charges.

Black, 41, worked for the tribe between 2009 and 2013 and earned more than $810,000 in income, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. But he failed to pay over $225,000 in taxes, the indictment alleges.

He also stole $81,578 from the tribe in 2012 and 2013, the U.S. Attorney said. He faces a total of five counts of tax evasion, five counts of failure to file income taxes and 15 counts of embezzlement and theft.

Black was arrested on the Arizona portion of the Navajo Nation, where he resides, the U.S. Attorney said.
