Federal authorities are investigating the death of six bald eagles on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, The Bismarck Tribune reports.

The six birds were all found dead in the same area near McLaughlin, on the South Dakota side of the reservation, the paper said. A tribal game and fish officer first came upon the eagles on March 24.

Authorities are considering the possibility that the eagles died after eating poisoned prairie dogs, the paper reported.
