Chief George Wickliffe of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma is facing an impeachment hearing.

Two council members are accusing Wickliffe of misappropriating tribal funds, violating his oath of office and approving payments without approval, The Tahlequah Daily Press reported. They will make their case at a hearing on May 24.

“There may be fallout from this that could affect other people,” council member Anile Locust told the paper.

Locust said it will take a vote of two-thirds of the council to remove Wickliffe from office.
